What Is Project Cargo?
Project cargo is the name given to large or complex shipments that do not fit into normal freight channels.This includes industrial machinery and heavy equipment, power generation plant components, oil and gas processing equipment, modular buildings and structures, offshore and subsea equipment, wind turbines and solar panels, and any single piece of cargo that is too large, too heavy or too valuable for conventional handling. Project cargo is frequently shipped in support of a major infrastructure or industrial project, where any delays can have significant contractual and financial consequences, making the quality of logistics planning and execution critically important.

Origin Services
From origin, Compass coordinates cargo inspection and measurement, packing and crating to the required standard for sea or air transport, lashing and securing for the chosen transport mode, export customs clearance and documentation including commercial invoices,packing lists, and export licenses where required, and booking of appropriate vessel space or charter aircraft.
Sea Freight for Heavy Cargo
Project cargo is generally shipped by sea on specialized vessel types such as breakbulk vessels, heavy lift ships, semi-submersible vessels and project vessels with heavy lift cranes. Compass has strong relationships with specialized project cargo shipping lines operating on routes through the major ports of the GCC. Our sea freight team handles vessel booking, port coordination and discharge operations with the specialized equipment these shipments require.
Land Transport and Heavy Lifting at Destination
Oversized and overweight cargo requires specialist road transport from the port to the project site, including low loader trailers, multi-axle vehicles and sometimes police escort and road closures for the largest loads. All of this is coordinated by Compass including abnormal load permits required by Saudi, Qatari and UAE authorities, convoy procedures and, if required, final positioning and installation of equipment at the project site.
